Targeting Risks of Serious Violence:
Fundamentals of Cambridge Crime Analysis Course

Challenge. How do we identify the people and places at highest risks of serious violence? How do we update those forecasts, every day, to better use police resources to prevent crime? The answer lies in more and better crime analysis.
Objectives. Applying rapid advances in IT and other technology, this Course will help police force crime analysts to become more skilled and effective at the following urgent tasks:
Identifying people most likely to be victimised by serious violence;
Tracking serious violent crime by micro-hot spots;
Predicting where murders and GBH assaults are most likely to occur;
Tracking police activities by hot spots in relation to crime trends;
Generating feedback to patrol teams delivery of patrol time by hot spot;
Tracking criminal networks and their trends in serious violence;
Testing the impact of police strategies applied to specific targets.

Faculty. The Cambridge Centre for Evidence-Based Policing faculty teaching this one-week, high-intensity course includes:
Professor Lawrence W. Sherman, founder of Evidence-Based Policing;
Dr. Barak Ariel, director of numerous hot spots patrol experiments in the UK;
Dr. Matthew Bland, former Head of Strategic Analysis for Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies;
Dr. Sara Valdebenito, Violence Research Centre, Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge;
Kent McFadzien, embedded Cambridge Centre Criminologist at Kent Police;
Staff Sergeant Natalie Hiltz, Peel Regional Police, Canada.
Cost.
The fee for attending the 5-day Course is £1,000.00 (VAT-exclusive).
Ensuite bed & breakfast at a University of Cambridge College within walking distance of the teaching venue can also be arranged through the Cambridge Centre for Evidence-Based Policing for £110.00 per night from Monday–Friday, for a total of £440.00 (VAT-exclusive).
These costs are designed for the special Home Office Serious Violence funding awarded to 18 UK police forces, but the course is open to analysts and officers from all police forces.
Course and accommodation total cost: £1,728.00 (20% VAT-inclusive).
