David Cowan (left), Superintendent at Victoria Police and President of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Evidence Based Policing, along with Andrew Hurst, Superintendent at New South Wales Police, have been awarded the Winston Churchill Fellowship.
They are two of 112 determined Australians to receive this prestigious award. It offers them a life-changing opportunity to meet and work with leaders of influence around the world to gain and exchange knowledge as well as experience for the betterment of themselves, their industry, and their community and Australia. The award funds global travel for 1-2 months.
David will use this opportunity to investigate Evidence-Based Policing worldwide and is planning to visit New Zealand, Israel, UK, Denmark, Sweden, USA and Canada.
Andrew will explore diversionary methods to change behaviours in domestic violence offenders, and will travel to the UK, US and Canada for this purpose.
Both Superintendents have previously studied the MSt in Applied Criminology & Police Management under Professor Lawrence Sherman.
The Cambridge Centre for Evidence-Based Policing wishes to extend their warmest well-wishes to these very deserving award recipients and look forward to learning from their experiences.
