Richard recently retired from Kent Police following 30 years of service. He is an Associate Lecturer for the Policing Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF). His last posting was as the Police Lead of the Force’s Innovation Task Force. The team successfully managed and implemented a number of evidence-based policing projects in collaboration with CCEBP, including E-Bit and R-TREC, both closely aligned to the Cambridge Allocation Model (CAM). Richard spent much of his career in detective roles from Detective Constable to Temporary Detective Superintendent, Head of Major and Economic Crime. During his time on the Kent Police Major Crime Team, he led in excess of 50 homicide cases as a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO). His research into the lack of prior police contact in domestic homicide cases whilst a Senior Investigating Officer led him to Evidence-Based Policing and a long-term project working with health agencies to develop an effective data sharing framework to identify precursor characteristics of lethal and near lethal domestic violence. In 2018 he graduated with a Masters of Applied Criminology and Police Management from the University of Cambridge.
